After the Cocoon is the first album Rich Panish composed after thirty years of abandoning music, despite the fact that his album Aurora Song was released before it. The cocoon represents the period in which the pieces on the album gestated in Rich’s unconscious. Each piece embodies a stage he went through in shedding skins of dreamlike darkness and emerging into light, only to return, at the end, to the silky threads of shadowy unknowing.
